Hong Kong pop queen Sammi Cheng is no stranger to turning heads – but her latest fashion shoot is definitely something else.
The 52-year-old superstar recently unveiled a series of daring new looks for a VChina photoshoot, with one standout outfit – a minimalist, avant-garde ensemble dubbed the “black tape” look by netizens – drawing particular attention.
Shared on Instagram, the edgy styling quickly stirred buzz across social media. Many praised the look for highlighting Cheng’s toned physique and giving off a bold, high-fashion vibe.
Cheng shared in her caption, as quoted by China Press, that one of her main goals for 2025 is to continue producing music albums in a variety of styles.
Perhaps, she's echoing that spirit of artistic evolution in this fashion shoot too.
The article also noted that several celebrities applauded Cheng’s bold fashion choices, including Charmaine Sheh, who wrote, “On fire!” and Catherine Chau, who simply said, “Cool.”
Fans echoed that excitement, calling the look “super stylish,” admiring her confident pose, and hailing Cheng as a true fashion queen who knows how to push the envelope.
As one fan put it: “That pose! That vibe! Not everyone can pull this off.”
Still, not everyone was impressed ... especially of the so-called "black tape" outfit. Some questioned the aesthetic, calling Cheng's frame “too skinny,” while others joked the look resembled a “face mask mishap.”
Some wondered whether the outfit was truly high fashion – or just a concept that had gone too far.
