Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao, who suffered a hip fracture in 2022, is on the mend after undergoing five operations.
The 45-year-old posted on social media on April 16 photos of herself doing physiotherapy.
“A great start on a Wednesday,” she wrote in Chinese. “May all our wishes come true – we have good health, are able to walk with springy steps and are happy always.”
Hsiao – known for songs such as Cappuccino (1999), Theme Song Of Love (2002) and Confession (2006) – had originally planned to kick off a concert tour in 2022, but shelved it due to her hip injury.
Her manager told Taiwanese media that the pop star was already injured before Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards in July 2022, but she had thought then that it was just a ligament tear. Hsiao was one of the prize presenters at the ceremony.
Hsiao’s agency had announced then that she was preparing for a new album. Her last one was 2020’s Naked Truth.
An X-ray later showed that she had suffered a right hip fracture, and the doctor advised her not to wear high heels, to move as little as possible and to let her bone rest.
However, the bachelorette’s work schedule was already packed at that time, including attending Paris Fashion Week in France.
Although she had difficulty walking due to the pain, she took painkillers and persevered with the activities. She was spotted using a walking stick at the fashion event in October 2022.
Her condition worsened due to a lack of rest, and she underwent a total of five operations, including hip replacement.
In September 2024, she fell in the bathroom before her fourth operation.
To speed up recovery, she hired three therapists who came up with a tailored schedule that involved two to six hours of rehabilitation a day.
