K-pop star BoA has apologised for a comment she made about South Korean comedienne Park Na-rae during a drunken live stream she appeared in with South Korean TV personality Jun Hyun-moo.
The 38-year-old singer, whose real name is Kwon Bo-ah, did so via a post made on the fan community site Weverse on April 8, according to South Korean news outlet Korea JoongAng Daily.
“I apologise to everyone who felt uncomfortable due to my careless words and immature behaviour during the social media live stream on Saturday,” she wrote.
BoA, who debuted in 2000 and is among the first K-pop acts that launched the Hallyu wave around the world, received backlash after appearing in an Instagram live stream started spontaneously by Jun on April 5. Jun said the pair were at his home having a drink, and netizens noted that both were visibly intoxicated.
At one point, Jun, 47, responded to a comment left on the live stream by a viewer, which questioned if Jun was dating his I Live Alone (2013 to present) castmate Park Na-rae. The K-reality series, which follows the everyday lives of single celebrities in their homes, counts Jun and Park, 39, as regular cast members.
BoA then dismissed the notion on behalf of Jun, to which he responded: “Why? Is it a shame for her to be with me?”
BoA then replied: “No, it’s a shame for you to be with her.”
Jun, who looked surprised by her response, then asked her: “Are you sure you’re OK saying this? This is going out live.”

Netizens felt the pair were disrespectful towards Park and that BoA’s comment was mean-spirited.
In her post, BoA said she has apologised to Park “for making inappropriate comments about her in her absence, and I am grateful for her generous understanding”.
BoA added: “To the fans who have supported and loved me for so long despite my shortcomings, I sincerely apologise for letting you down. I will take this opportunity to reflect on myself once again and do my best to show a more mature side, remembering the weight that every word and action can carry.”
The live stream also raised questions about the nature of the relationship between Jun and BoA, who were behaving in an intimate manner during the session, with BoA touching Jun’s face and lying on his shoulder.
She did not mention their relationship in her apology.
The singer, who is known for hit songs such as No. 1 (2002), Valenti (2002) and Only One (2012), held a solo concert in Singapore at The Star Theatre in November 2024. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
