‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ actress Kang Myung-joo dies at 53

Actor Kang Myung-joo, known for her role in Netflix’s latest hit K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines, died Feb 27 after a battle with cancer. She was 53.

Her daughter, Park Se-young, announced the news on Instagram the following day. 

“My mother embarked on a long journey yesterday afternoon. I would appreciate it if you could remember the stage she loved and her shining moments,” she wrote.

Kang played the mother of Yeong-bum, portrayed by Lee Jun-young, the boyfriend of protagonist Geum-myeong, played by IU, in When Life Gives You Tangerines.

She also played Judge Park In-young in ENA’s 2022 drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

Actor Nam Myeong-ryeol shared his condolences on Instagram. 

“I thought actress Kang Myung-joo could overcome her cancer and would return to the stage, but I am devastated to hear of her passing. I remember her as a person of truth and pure love,” he wrote. – The Korea Herald/Asia News Network
