K-pop star G-Dragon is all set for his first solo entertainment show.

Good Day is a variety show with a star-studded guest roster that includes K-pop girl group Aespa, actor Kim Soo-hyun, actress Kim Go-eun and celebrity chef Ahn Sung-jae from hit reality show Culinary Class Wars (2024).

The show will be helmed by star producer Kim Tae-ho, the creator of Infinite Challenge (2005 to 2018). That hit variety series featured G-Dragon as a guest on episodes of its popular long-running sketch Infinite Company from 2012. This marks Kim’s return to broadcaster MBC after a hiatus of three years.

The new title will premiere on Feb 16 on MBC and be available on streaming platform Disney+.

G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, will take on the role of a music producer in Good Day. He will collaborate with well-known figures from across diverse fields to create a song to commemorate the year.

The reality show will explore the 36-year-old’s creative process, as he strives to transform the personal stories of his guests into music. The programme reportedly originated from an idea put forward by the star himself, who is also known for being the leader of popular boy band BigBang.

The line-up of guests will include comedian Jo Se-ho, BigBang members Daesung and Taeyang, acclaimed acting talent Jung Hae-in, Im Si-wan and Hwang Jung-min, and K-pop acts such as Seventeen’s sub-unit BSS.

A highlight of Good Day is the reunion between G-Dragon and former cast members of Infinite Challenge.

The first teaser for Good Day, featuring comedian Jung Hyung-don – a beloved Infinite Challenge alum – was released on YouTube on Jan 20, racking up nearly 470,000 views in a day.

In the clip, G-Dragon can be seen waiting in a restaurant. When Jung appears, G-Dragon runs to the door to greet him with a hug.

The show is one of several projects G-Dragon has embarked on after his long-awaited return to entertainment. Following his discharge from South Korea’s mandatory military service in 2019, he went on a long hiatus, with no solo music released or TV appearances until late 2024.

He dropped his new songs Power and Home Sweet Home in October and November 2024, and then performed at the Mama Awards for the first time in nine years. A new album is in the works, though no release date has been announced. – The Korea Herald/Asia News Network
