Rumours of an alleged split between Taiwanese actress Michelle Chen and her husband, Chinese actor Chen Xiao, continue to swirl after her father’s death.

On Dec 7, Michelle mourned her father Chen Chin-jung on social media, sharing several photos of her growing up with her father.

“Daddy, I will always love you,” she wrote in English on Instagram, before adding in Chinese on Weibo: “I will still love you even when I go to heaven one day.”

Several of the actress’ celebrity friends, such as Taiwanese singer Rainie Yang, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen and Hong Kong singer Joey Yung, commented on her post.

There was no response from Chen Xiao and he has not posted anything on his father-in-law’s death on social media.

Michelle's Weibo profile shows that she is currently in Taiwan, while Chen Xiao’s shows that he is in Zhejiang province in China. The actor was spotted by netizens at Hangzhou airport on Dec 9.

Michelle, 41, is best known for the Taiwanese coming-of-age romance film You Are The Apple Of My Eye (2011), while Chen Xiao, 37, shot to stardom with the Chinese period drama Legend Of Lu Zhen (2013).

The couple met while filming the Chinese drama series The Romance Of The Condor Heroes (2014 to 2015), an adaptation of late Hong Kong author Louis Cha’s martial arts novel The Return Of The Condor Heroes (1959).

Chen Xiao and Michelle played the lead couple of Yang Guo and Xiaolongnu (Little Dragon Girl). They tied the knot in July 2016 and their son was born in December the same year. However, they have been plagued by rumours of marital woes over the years.

Speculation that their marriage is on the rocks resurfaced in June, when a Chinese paparazzo claimed that the couple were in the midst of divorce proceedings.

The couple have so far not reacted to the rumours. Netizens noticed that they have not appeared together since Michelle's birthday celebration in May 2023. The couple have also not wished each other happy birthday on social media in 2024. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
