Shortly after announcing her divorce late last year, Taiwanese singer-actress Vivian Hsu encountered yet another challenge in her personal life.

The 49-year-old recently revealed that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer following a routine health check at the beginning of this year.

Reports indicate that Hsu, who was married to Singapore-based businessman Sean Lee for nine years, initially struggled to accept the news, questioning, “Why me?”

The Shaolin Popey star, who has a son, underwent surgery the next day to remove the stage zero cancerous lesion in her throat.

Hsu shared that her entire throat felt numb following the operation, and doctors have advised her to recuperate at home for up to three months.

The surgery also impacted the muscles around her throat, prompting her to take singing lessons and physiotherapy to help regain control of her voice.

“My family and friends were with me every step of the way. I wasn’t alone,” she said, expressing gratitude for their continuous support.

Hsu added in an Instagram post that she has been maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and a balanced diet.

The singer believes that the cancer may be linked to genetic factors.

Hsu also expressed relief that her cancer was detected in its early stages and urged everyone to go for regular health checkups.

As for whether this experience had prompted her to live life at a more relaxed pace, Hsu said she will continue giving her best but will be more mindful about not overworking herself.

She also reassured fans that she’s feeling better now and thanked them for showing concern.

“My son is still young. I will do my best to stay healthy and stay with him for a long time. Mama is strong. I won’t be defeated easily,” she said.
