The saying that “half of the Hong Kong entertainment industry has come to Malaysia” has been circulating among local netizens lately, and it’s not far from the truth.

In recent days, we have seen huge stars like Nicholas Tse, Bosco Wong, Jackson Wang, Anita Yuen and more arriving for work or leisure.

This time, renowned Hong Kong actor Simon Yam was spotted enjoying bean sprouts chicken at a restaurant in Ipoh, Perak.

On Wednesday (July 17), the restaurant’s owner shared several photos with Yam on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu.

The owner captioned the post: “I met a celebrity in Ipoh! Simon Yam is here. He’s very nice, considerate and friendly.”

Dressed in a denim jacket, olive green cargo pants and a cap, Yam was reported to be very humble, happily posing for photos with diners and employees at the shop.

Although the reason for his current trip is unknown, the 69-year-old has been visiting Malaysia since the 1980s and once said coming here is like “returning home”.

His last reported visit was in May, when he arrived in Penang for a promotional event.

At the time, Yam listed char kway teow, laksa, oyster omelette and chicken rice as some of his favourite dishes.

He recently made headlines for attending a business event in Shenzhen, China, with around 20 bodyguards escorting him.
