Sophia Albarakbah (pic) is tired of playing roles that require her to be gentle and sweet and dreams of taking on action-packed and rugged roles.

The actress said she wants to try something new to test her versatility.

"I really want to do intense action-packed roles and play epic characters as well. These are roles I haven’t tried yet but if given the opportunity, I will definitely do my best.

"Previously, I played the character of a ‘normal’ ghost but this time in the film Saka Perawan, I play a comical ghost, so, if I get more challenging roles, it will certainly be more interesting," she said on Bernama TV’s Apa Khabar Malaysia to promote her latest movie Saka Perawan directed by Dr Ahmad Idham.

Sophia, who is of Arab, Malay and Chinese descent, said she is also ready to face any challenge to ensure her action roles are performed well.

"I won't deny that action roles come with risks but once I accept the challenge, I will do my best. Although it's challenging, it will be an exciting experience.

"For example, in the film Saka Perawan, while I was doing a scene where I was required to ‘fly’, one of the ropes holding me snapped and I nearly fell if not for the quick action of the film crew who lowered me safely,” she said.

Sophia, who gained fame after portraying Cahaya Malaika in the drama Suamiku Lelaki Pendosa, also aspires to win the Best Actress award.

"It may not be in the near future but maybe one day (I will win the award), every actor has this dream. Give me some time to improve the quality of my acting.

"Currently, I am taking acting classes and doing a lot of homework to improve my acting skills. I’m also discussing with directors (about my acting quality)," she said.

When asked about the controversies hounding her, the actress said she has chosen to put them aside and, instead, focus on her career and improve her acting skills. – Bernama
