Krisna Mohan, the eldest son of late Malaysian singer Simon Mohan, is still struggling to come to terms with the loss of his father.

In an interview with China Press, Krisna expressed sorrow at missing Father's Day this Sunday (June 16), adding that the sudden loss left the family heartbroken.

“I never imagined I wouldn’t be able to spend Father's Day with him this year.

“I originally intended to buy a cake and throw a simple celebration at home since he had mobility issues,” the 34-year-old said.

Krisna described Simon to be more like a “friend” rather than a conventional father figure to him and his younger brother, Rajini, 30.

“He wasn’t a strict father. We could talk about anything with our dad and would always go out together to find good food,” he added.

Simon, whose real name is Elanjselvan VM Mohan, passed away at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (June 11). He was 64.

Hailing from Perak, Simon is remembered in the history of local music for being the first Indian to record a Mandarin album in the 1990s.

He attended a Chinese primary school and is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hokkien.

Simon signed with Ruihua Records in the late 1980s and released Mandarin songs like The Wind Without A Hometown, Late Autumn and more.

When asked if he was aware of his father’s fame back then, Krisna said: “I knew from a very young age. I remember hearing my dad’s voice on the radio and seeing him on television.”

Simon’s remains has been transported back to his home in Gunung Rapat, Ipoh. The funeral will be held on Saturday.
