Taiwanese actress Carol Wan has confirmed that she was assaulted by her husband in public. The incident took place on Jan 18 outside a restaurant in Taipei.

Surveillance footage circulating on social media captured Wan’s husband repeatedly kicking her after a heated argument. The actress could be seen crying as her husband yelled at her.

In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 31), Wan, 52, said the incident was a “misunderstanding” and stressed that the conflict had been resolved “peacefully”.

“Both of us didn’t control our alcohol intake that day, leading to escalating tensions after an argument. We apologised to each other when we got home,” she said.

Wan added that her husband kicked her in her left abdomen. However, she opted not to file a police report as there were no obvious external injuries.

Wan also said she won’t disclose her husband’s identity as he’s not a public figure.

“I’m not injured ... we’re asking for the media and members of the public to respect our privacy.

“I apologise for the concern caused by this incident and will not be addressing the matter anymore,” she added.

For the record, Wan has been married three times.

Her first marriage was to a man named Saito Yoshitatsu in 2003. The relationship lasted for five years.

Wan went on to tie the knot with an American man in 2014, but the marriage ended in divorce three years later.
