Hong Kong star Kayan Choi is not one to let criticisms bring her down.

The former Miss Hong Kong 2019 contestant has been the target of netizens who are constantly attacking her for her lavish lifestyle and materialistic personality.

Recently, Choi was seen hanging out with actresses Regina Ho, Eunice Chan and Karlie Chung. Fans of Ho went on her Instagram to show their dismay.

"It turns out you’re good friends with these gold diggers... (your) image has been tarnished,” a netizen wrote.

Choi didn't take this lightly and addressed the issue.

“Since I started my own business at 18, I realised everything revolves around money. It helps quantify the standard and quality of living. At that time, I knew that if I wanted something better then I would need to make more money," Choi, 29, wrote in Chinese on Instagram, as translated by Jaynestars.

"In the past 11 years, I persevered in my career because I love my work and I need to take care of my employees. To me, ‘gold digging’ is an important quality because it gives me the motivation to continue working hard,” the Barrack O’Karma 2 star added.

The actress went on to say the public only sees one side of her – the one leading a glamorous, luxurious life.

"... I’m just like everyone else. I have to go to work too. But that’s OK, I want to be brave and real and tell everyone that yes, I love money.

"I’ll continue to elevate my quality of life and work hard. To all my modern ladies who loves money like me... Be brave in saying it out loud!" she added.

It is reported that Choi's longtime boyfriend proposed to the actress in Paris a couple of months ago.

She shared some photos of the proposal on her account. "Happy to announce, YES I Do!.... Meeting you, being with you, and building our future with you is the greatest blessing of my life," Choi said, adding that she has started preparing for her upcoming wedding.
