TVB actor Mat Yeung, who was sentenced to 18 days in jail over a DUI conviction, was released from Stanley Prison on Jan 7, a day earlier than expected.

His Malaysian girlfriend Lisa Ch'ng came to pick him up around 9am.

Yeung didn't answer any questions posted to him by the Hong Kong media who gathered outside the prison since 7.30am. He only wished the reporters, "Good morning".

The first order of the day for the troubled star was head to TVB HQ where he was said to have met big bosses to apologise. He also recorded an official apology which was posted on TVB's YouTube channel.

Then, the Shadow Of Justice actor sat down for an interview on the TVB show, Scoop where he opened up about his time in prison.

“My time (inside) was very disciplined, I lost my freedom there, and reflected on a lot of what I did. I hope that my release today will be a fresh start,” the 41-year-old said.

The actor added that he was filled with guilt when he was in prison.

“This sense of guilt is the worst torment inside, there’s no one to talk to you and only the four walls, nothing to express your emotions," he said.

Now that he is a free man after serving time, Yeung said he wanted to have some noodles as it wasn't available in prison.

Yeung was arrested in August 2020 after crashing his car in Mid-Levels, Hong Kong. He was sentenced to 18 days in prison in November 2021. The actor's appeal was overturn a year later and he started his jail sentence on Dec 22, 2022.
