The newly crowned Miss Hong Kong Denice Lam is finding out that being in the limelight means taking the good as well as the bad.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old beauty, she's been making news for all the wrong reasons.

A few years ago, prior to winning the beauty title, Lam appeared on a talk show where she revealed that she had five sexual partners.

Not surprisingly, netizens have dug the old interview and now label her as a nymphomaniac.

This has caused her much grief.

"I do get worried I will not be able to get hitched. People who don't know me, after reading the reports, wouldn’t want to understand me.

"Who would want to pursue me after seeing the reports?” Lam said, adding that she wanted to clarify that she, "have not had five boyfriends, only three."

According to a Singaporean entertainment portal, Hong Kong media reported that a friend revealed that Lam is a spendthrift and that she owes a lot of money to credit card company. The friend added that Lam entered the pageant so that she could use the prize money to settle the debt.

Lam denies the report, calling it fake news.

“My credit card limit used to be only HK$10,000 (RM6,000), how is it possible to rack up HK$500,000 (RM300,000) in debts? I don’t even have any credit cards now. I prefer to use cash,” an exasperated Lam said.

Lam is the daughter of retired Hong Kong actor Wilson Lam, who was once dubbed "one of Hong Kong's most handsome men".

So daddy knows a thing or two about life under the glaring spotlight.

Denice Lam said her father told her that rumours are part and parcel of showbiz and she shouldn't take them seriously.

The 1.8m-tall Lam said: "He knows that I am not that kind of person. He said that, in (showbiz), scandals are inevitable, what’s more I am the champion (of the pageant)."
