Malaysian actor Evan Siau has passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. Siau was 36.
According to Siau's sister, Emily, the actor passed away on March 19.
"With deepest sorrow, we announce that Evan Siau, our most beloved son, brother, family member, and friend was granted his angel wings on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at home," Emily wrote on Siau's Facebook page.
"Evan’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all friends and relatives for their love and care."
According to a Chinese daily, Siau had been diagnosed with cancer two years ago and had undergone chemotherapy. He returned to his hometown in Sabah in mid-2021 to continue his fight with the disease and spend time with his family.
Unfortunately, after his birthday in January, his health deteriorated.
Siau started his stint in showbiz after winning the Mr Malaysia International competition in 2012. He has starred in local dramas such as Pulse Of Life and I'm Not A Loser as well as Sigaporean drama Break Free. He was also active in the local theatre scene.
Some of Siau's colleagues have taken to social media to remember the late actor.
Actor Windz Neom considered Siau a big brother who was always caring.
"In life, you'll meet someone who teaches you something valuable. And what you taught me was persistence," Neom said on Instagram.
Siau's mentor Douglas Wong also shared his tribute to the actor on Facebook.
Wong wrote: "Now, you are free of illness and pain, and can continue to be the handsome guy you are in another, better, world."
Siau's funeral will be held on March 23 in Church of Mary Immaculate in Kota Kinabalu.
