Malaysian actor Hero Tai proves that less is more. The 36-year-old's latest book, a pictorial titled Be My Hero, has sold over 5,000 copies since its release in December 2021.
Last month, Tai held a book signing ceremony in Taipei – where he has been based for the past 10 years – where many of his fans turned up to support their idol.
As there have been more order, the book is now in its second reprint.
Although Tai has released a pictorial previously – a bodybuilding-themed book – Be My Hero is more risque as it features the fitness buff in, erm, the buff.
Was he nervous during the shoot when he had to disrobe?
"The references we looked at during the pre-shoot meetings were already very daring, so I had already readied myself mentally... so there’s no embarrassment,” Tai told Taiwan media in an interview.
Tai, who starred in the 2012 flick Kepong Gangster, has not been back to Malaysia for some time due to the pandemic. He was scheduled to return to the country for Chinese New Year but his flight was cancelled because of the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
The actor hopes to return home soon to reunite with his family and friends. He also wants to hear his father's thoughts on his physique in the pictorial.
Tai said: “My dad was a bodybuilding contestant in his youth, so I must surely let him give me his feedback and be a little proud (of me)!”
Tai doesn't rule out a second nude pictorial since some fans have made their request known to the actor.
“OK! I will set my target for 40 years old. If at 40, you guys still think my physique is not bad, then I shall publish another pictorial," he teased.
"But I will plan for other genres like cookbooks or bodybuilding books within these few years,” the star added.
