Parasite actress Park So-dam was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It was discovered when she went for her regular physical check-up, reported a Korean news portal.

She is currently said to be recovering from having had a surgery as per doctor’s advice.

The news was shared to the Korean media by her agency via an official statement.

The 30-year-old star was scheduled to start her promotion round for the upcoming crime-action thriller Special Cargo, which is set to open in South Korea come January 2022.

As translated by the news portal, the statement from her agency reads: “The actress apologises for not being able to be with the fans who have been supporting and waiting for the premiere of Special Cargo.

“Park So-dam will be focusing on her recovery so she can greet everyone in good health in the future.”

In the film, Park plays a daring driver who makes her deliveries on time no matter the challenges. But when she is asked to deliver a human cargo, she has a change of heart.

This puts her in danger as both a corrupt police officer as well as a group of gangsters are now after her.

In a previous interview, Park spoke of her preparation for her role in Special Cargo.

She said: “I put in a lot of effort into action training and driving practise in order to do the specialised (driving) techniques that I don’t do in everyday life, such as drifting.”
