Astro adds streaming content with new partnerships

To further celebrate its 25th anniversary, Astro is looking to give more back to its customers.

On Nov 9, Astro officially launched Netflix on its platform, as part of the All-New Astro Experience. Astro customers can now enjoy Netflix alongside other streaming services such as HBO GO, Disney+ Hotstar, iQiyi and TVBAnywhere+ through the newly revamped Astro subscription packages.

Netflix can be accessed just like any other channel on Astro's Ultra Box. After subscribing, all customers have to do is tune into Ch 741 for Netflix content.

Astro’s group chief operating officer and chief executive officer for television operations, Euan Smith explained: "To start this journey, we went back to our customers. I've personally sat in lots and lots of focus groups with all walks of society, with all sorts of people. Customers, previous customers, customers to be. We asked them what it is they want."

Based on feedback, customers want easy access to streaming platforms while also enjoying Astro's content, leading the company to venture into this new initiative.

Astro commercial director, Azlin Arshad further explained that the response received through their previous collaborations, such as with Disney+ Hotstar, showed how much customers enjoyed streaming services. "All that speaks to how customers want to stream their content and also want the flexibility in terms of where they can stream the content, which is anywhere," she said.

Though Netflix is the first streaming platform to be added as a channel into the Astro interface, Smith assured that there are plans in the coming months for the other platforms as well.
