Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have left the royal aides in shock after requesting to meet the Queen in the coming weeks.
The couple is hoping to introduce Her Majesty to her great-granddaughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born earlier in the year.
British newspaper The Sun reported that Harry also plans to have a christening for his daughter, with the possible location being Windsor Castle. This would mark the prince’s third return to the United Kingdom since his visit for Prince Philip’s funeral in April and the unveiling of his mother Princess Diana’s statue in July. Meghan however has not returned since they couple renounced royal duties back in March 2020.
Sources told The Sun that royal aides were stunned at the request, considering the couple’s shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey in March. “They may genuinely want to see the Queen but it's breathtaking given what they've put her through this year,” a source was quoted saying.
There has yet to be any official response to the couple’s request.
