Singer Nabila Razali was met with a barrage of criticisms after singing off-pitch last weekend at the prestigious annual song contest, Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL).
The AJL stage marked Nabila's first performance after taking a few months off to recover from a vocal cord injury. But things didn't go as planned, as a couple of pitchy moments marred the performance.
"I've tried my very best... I'm so sorry," she wrote on Instagram hours after performing Peluang Kedua, a wildly popular melancholic ballad written by Hael Husaini and songwriting group mfmf.
But amid a sea of angry comments lambasting the singer, a number of local artistes are showering the 28-year-old singer with words of encouragement.
"We've all made mistakes," Datuk Jamal Abdillah, who was also a contender on that night, touched on the issue in an interview with Berita Harian.
"I've gone off-pitch before too. In fact, I've had times where no voice came out at all because I had to fulfill way too many singing engagements."
"We can make plans but sometimes there are unexpected health factors that come into play."
The 61-year-old encouraged Nabila not to let the incident get her down but inspire her to work harder instead.
2017 Malaysia Film Festival Best Supporting Actress winner Diana Danielle shared her earlier acting performances weren't perfect too.
"Hi darling, when I first started acting I was “pelakon kayu kayan (wooden actress)” for years. They just give me pretty girl roles and I was always underpaid.
"I went for classes, invested time and money and now I am able to work with ease and confidence. It’s a journey and sometimes a long one.
"Make it worth the journey, do not give up! Do not ever let people get to you that you start doubting yourself. I am so proud of you for going up that stage and giving your all."
Malaysia's No. 1 singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza commented she had nothing to be ashamed of as she did her best. "It's OK, you've worked hard, leave the rest to Allah."
