If you ever come across Zhang Ziyi, do not call her "Auntie".
One fan found out the hard way when the Chinese actress kicked him out of a group chat after he addressed her as "Auntie".
On Jan 6, a fan went on Weibo said that the 41-year-old actress kicked him out of an official fan club group chat after he posted, “Auntie, do you still remember what your profession is?”. He was referring to the fact that Zhang has not had many acting gigs lately.
The fan took responsibility for the message that infuriated Zhang.
“I was not careful enough with my words; I acknowledge that I was blacklisted because of that. In the future, I will follow her activities quietly," he said, adding that he has been a fan of the actress for 15 years.
While some netizens were aghast at Zhang's behaviour, some fans said the actress has the right to censor those she deemed rude.
However, all the drama was put to rest a few hours later when Zhang's manager contacted the fan to clarify that it was a misunderstanding and added him back to the group chat.
Zhang's fans will be happy to know that the actress is slated to make her TV debut this year in the series, Monarch Industry opposite Zhou Yiwei, Tony Yang, Kara Wai and Angie Chiu. Based on the novel Emperor's Conquest, the historical drama tells the story of a powerful woman who becomes a co-ruler of China alongside her husband.
