With many long-distance relationships given an extra challenge due to the pandemic, singer-songwriter Yazmin Aziz decided to emphasise on how love knows no distance in her new single Soul Connection.

The 19-year-old Malaysian-Filipino artiste said Soul Connection touches on holding on to that love during the lockdown when everyone is feeling lonely and far from each other.

Yasmin shared with StarLifestyle: “I really hope that the listeners are able to relate to the story behind Soul Connection, especially those who remain to be distant from the ones they love most because we are still not able to freely travel due to Covid-19.

“By writing songs, I always look to create memorable melodies and that they resonate with the listeners. I hope Soul Connection gives all listeners the positive energy through the song's feel good music.”

The Help University communication student, who’s been in long-distance relationships previously, added: “The lyrics tells the story that many can relate to especially those who are far away from their family members, friends or even the love of their life.”

Soul Connection is Yazmin’s latest single; her other songs include Cold Rainy Days, Heart & Soul and Lihatlah.

No stranger to international collaborations and acclaim – having represented Malaysia in various international competitions including the annual World Championships of Performing Arts where she's received top placements – Yazmin was recently featured in the Project Power song, initiated by actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dominique Fishback.

In August, Gordon-Levitt had invited people from around the world to work with him on an original song and music video to promote the theme of the Netflix film Project Power, which he and Fishback star in. He had included Malaysia in his Facebook post.

Yazmin was one of the Malaysians who responded. She recalled: “My followers tagged me to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's post asking for Malaysian talents. So, I thought I’d give it a try.

“I got selected for the vocals for the hook portion of the song Project Power Rap Cypher. Later, they made another request for voice acting for (the track), Power Within. I tried and got featured on this too.”
