Newscasters and employees at national broadcaster RTM showed up to work wearing school uniform on June 24, the first day of school since the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

RTM's news and current affairs division deputy director Saifuzzaman Yusop said the move was meant to boost the morale of educators and students.

"RTM newscasters and staffers all over the country are wearing school uniform today to give our full support to teachers, students and parents."

Deputy director of TV news section Shahri Saripan added: "Some of our employees at RTM have children who are going back to school for the first time today. We want to send out a message of encouragement to them, especially since they have major exams coming up."

On June 24, some 500,000 students sitting for school-leaving exams like SPM and STPM were given the green light to return to school. Many more students are expected to return to school in the weeks to come.
