In keeping with tradition, local Chinese language radio station 988 will be filling the airwaves with upbeat tunes for a happy and prosperous celebration from its brand new CNY album Sweet Sweet Good Year (Sweet Sweet Guo Hao Nian).
This latest release will be 988’s 12th Chinese New Year (CNY) album, and completes the Chinese zodiac cycle for the station’s annual CNY project.
With Chinese New Year being just around the corner, 988 will kick start the year by conducting a CNY promotional campaign with its strategic partner Yee Lee Corporation’s flagship brand Red Eagle Cooking Oil to prepare goodies for roadshows and give away attractive prizes to listeners during on-air contests.
Since 2020 is the Year of the Rat, 988’s latest CNY mascot is a cute mouse character named Sugar.
Apart from gracing 988’s new album, desktop calendars and red packets, Sugar the mascot will also be featured in a limited edition three-piece Prosperity bowl set. The set comprises a porcelain bowl featuring Sugar the mascot, a porcelain spoon and a pair of chopsticks.
988 listeners can get their hands on the Prosperity bowl set with a minimum purchase of RM30 worth of products from Yee Lee’s series of flagship cooking oils – Red Eagle, SunLico, NeuVida – in a single receipt.
This new album comprises five festive tracks, four of which are new compositions – Sweet Sweet Good Year (Sweet Sweet Guo Hou Nin), It’s New Year (Xin Nian Yo), Auspicious Greetings (Ji Xiang Hua), Perfect Moment (Zui Mei De Shi Guang) – and one which is a medley of previous years’ title tracks, 988 Super Celebration (988 Wu Di Guo Hao Nian).
The station has already released three music videos which are available via the 988 app as well as the radio station’s various social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the second track It’s New Year (Xin Nian Yo), with lyrics and music written by singer-songwriter Yise Loo, is the theme song for the Chinese New Year movie A Moment Of Happiness (Xin Nian Tai Feng Kuang).
Filmed in Malaysia, A Moment Of Happiness will also be featuring several 988 radio deejays including Chan Fong, Danny One, Cassey Soo, Fish Poh, Chrystina Ng. The festive flick will be released in local cinemas on Jan 25, which is the first day of the Chinese New Year.
The limited edition Sweet Sweet Good Year album comes in a box set with a CD comprising five songs, a desktop calendar featuring all the 988 deejays and a packet of red envelopes designed with the year 2020 mascot Sugar.
The box set is selling for RM35 online and RM30 at roadshows. Pre-orders for the CNY album may be placed via the 988 store on Shopee.
Come January, the radio deejays will be embarking on the 988 Sweet Sweet Good Year tour to promote the station’s new CNY album throughout Peninsular Malaysia.
Limited copies of the new album will be available for purchase during meet-the-deejay autograph sessions at various CNY tour stops.
