Top Gun, featuring Tom Cruise in his first romantic role as an adult, was released 30 years ago on May 16 in the US.
The iconic movie is regarded as one of the most memorable films of the 1980s, despite its average ratings on IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and several other online review aggregators. Perhaps this had a lot to do with Cruise's boyish good looks and potential star quality back then; plus, his character had a "cool" nickname – Maverick.
