A CONSIDERABLE number of women in Japan grew up playing with dress-up dolls. For many of them, a Licca-chan doll would have been their favourite. (The doll, whose full name is Licca Kayama, is fondly called Licca-chan - chan being an affectionate suffix used mainly with friends, family members and children.)
Since the doll’s debut in 1967, girls have enjoyed changing her dresses and tiny shoes and imagining conversations Licca-chan would have with other dolls. A variety of Licca-chan homes, often supplied with a range of furniture in dreamy colours, also have been part of the long-lasting attraction of playing with Licca-chan.
