When I arrive for the interview, Abayo invites me to sit by a dining table, which has carvings of the leopard’s skin. Even though the patterns are on wood, I cannot resist stroking one of the carvings fashioned after the beast’s rosette-patterned coat.
Other than sculptural elements inspired by nature, Abayo also shows his whimsical side in his works.
