Desperate Housewives fills void Sex and the City left behind

In the opening scene of Desperate Housewives (DH), narrator Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) kills herself. However, her spirit lives on in Wisteria Lane. With death, she sees more and through her eyes, we watch the lives of her friends and neighbours.

Why did she commit suicide? Her friends Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross) and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria) are asking the same question too. Was taking her life the only way out? To the outside world, Mary Alice seemed to have the perfect life.
