Mercedes-Benz Malaysia to expand EV portfolio with all-electric C-class

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia plans to expand its electric vehicle line-up by introducing the all-electric C-Class as it has seen stronger growth in demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the country.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia chief executive officer and president Martin Schulz said the company believed in the transition towards electrification, although the pace of adoption would largely depend on customer demand.

"That is why we want to continue providing the choice of propulsion that meets our customers’ lifestyle,” he told a press conference after the All-New Electric C-Class Car Preview here, today.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz Group AG Board of Management (Sales and Customer Experience) member Mathias Geisen said the company expected electric vehicles to account for the majority of sales in many markets in the coming years, while continuing to offer customers different powertrain options.

These include combustion-engine vehicles, plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles.

"We saw tremendous development of petrol and electric cars around the world.

"So I am pretty sure the majority (of cars) will very soon be electric, but we will continue offering both (petrol and electric),” he said.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz C 300 4MATIC Electric AMG Line is expected to be launched in early 2027, with an estimated starting price of RM360,888.

The first all-electric C-Class combines a distinctive new design with familiar qualities of elegance, comfort, intelligence and sportiness, bringing the model into a new era of electric mobility.  - Bernama
