KUALA LUMPUR: Nestlé Malaysia and the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) have prepared 7,000 food and nutrition aid packs for families at risk of flooding during the monsoon season.

The supplies are being transported to Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu as part of flood preparedness efforts.

In Sabah, 40 volunteers from Nestlé’s local operations, Harrisons Sabah and MRC Sabah have prepared 1,000 aid bags for distribution within the state.

Nestlé Malaysia said its contribution of products and financial assistance for this year’s initiative was valued at about RM1.8mil.

The collaboration, now in its fourth consecutive year, has provided assistance to more than 30,000 flood-affected families since 2023.

Nestlé Malaysia chief executive officer Juan Aranols said early preparations were crucial to ensuring essential supplies could reach flood-affected communities quickly.

“When communities are facing the threat of floods, being prepared can make an important difference.

“Our priority is to ensure that essential food and beverage supplies are packed and ready to reach affected communities quickly when the need arises,” he said.

MRC national chairperson Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah said positioning supplies ahead of potential flooding would enable humanitarian assistance to be mobilised more effectively.

The packing exercise in Kuala Lumpur involved Nestlé Malaysia employees, MRC volunteers and representatives from Universiti Malaya, Universiti Malaya-Wales and Yayasan Wakaf.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and its agencies are also involved in supporting the flood relief efforts.

Separately, Nestlé Malaysia recently worked with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia to prepare 800 food and nutrition aid packs for families in remote areas of Tumpat and Jeli, Kelantan.

A total of 400 Nestlé Malaysia employees participated in this year’s flood relief preparations.
