Berjaya Construction to undertake design-and-build for Sanglang Port project

KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Construction Bhd is undertaking design-and-build works for the Sanglang Port Development project in Perlis, aimed at enhancing the state’s maritime connectivity.

According to the group, the project is a strategic maritime infrastructure initiative that complements the recently completed logistics infrastructure comprising Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Free Commercial Zone - PIP and the Chuping Valley Industrial Area.

Sanglang Port carries an estimated total development cost of approximately RM1.2bil, including the initial estimated construction costs of RM675mil.

Berjaya Construction will undertake the project in collaboration with Perlis Inland Port (PIP) and Sanglang Port developer Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd.

The development, which will take place in stages, will comprise two Multi-User Terminals, a Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) Terminal and a General Cargo Terminal along the 4km trestle with water depths of up to 11.9m.

The master plan also provides for five key maritime activities including RORO operations, fisheries facilities, general cargo handling, an energy hub and multi-user facilities.

This integrated configuration is designed to accommodate a diverse range of cargo categories, shipping requirements and commercial operations, positioning Sanglang Port to serve as a potential maritime gateway for Perlis and the wider northern region.

The Sanglang Port Development Project underscores the importance of investing in strategic infrastructure

to support Malaysia’s long-term economic growth and strengthen regional connectivity.

"We believe that well-planned maritime facilities can unlock new opportunities for trade, industry and investment, while supporting local businesses and communities," said Berjaya Corp Bhd founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun in a statement.

Mutiara Perlis founder and group executive chairman Datuk Shabaruddin Ibrahim added that improved cargo-handling capabilities and access to wider markets with PIP and Sanglang Port could strengthen the state's attractiveness to investors in logistics, manufacturing, energy and related industries, thereby generating employment and business opportunities for local enterprises.
