Gamuda JV secures RM3.72bil Taiwan MRT contract

KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd, through a joint venture (JV) with Taiwan-based MiTAC Information Technology Corp, has secured a RM3.72bil contract for the design and construction of systems and trackwork for the Keelung Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project in Taiwan.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Gamuda said the contract, valued at NT$29.22bil, was awarded by the Department of Rapid Transit Systems under the New Taipei City Government.

Gamuda holds a 72.84% stake in the JV, while MiTAC holds the remaining 27.16%.

Gamuda's share of the contract is valued at approximately RM2.71bil.

The project, which has a duration of 2,820 days or about 7.7 years, covers systems and trackwork along a 15.6km alignment serving 13 stations across Taipei City, New Taipei City and Keelung City.

The scope of works includes trackwork, rolling stock, power supply, signalling, platform screen doors, communication systems, central monitoring systems, automatic fare collection systems and depot maintenance equipment.

Gamuda said the project forms part of the designated additional works to the Xizhi–Donghu MRT project, which it secured on Oct 22, 2024.

“The project is expected to contribute positively to the revenue and earnings of Gamuda Group from the financial year ending July 31, 2027 until the completion of the project,” it said.
