Telekom Malaysia group chief executive officer Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris

PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has welcomed Budget 2027’s emphasis on digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and cybersecurity, saying the initiatives will strengthen Malaysia’s digital capabilities and regional competitiveness.

Group chief executive officer Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said measures to expand connectivity, develop sovereign AI cloud capabilities and enhance cybersecurity would lay a solid foundation for the country’s digital economy.

“Budget 2027 provides strong impetus for Malaysia’s digital economy and inclusivity, particularly through its focus on improving access to digital infrastructure, wider AI adoption, sovereign AI cloud, enhanced cybersecurity and post-quantum cryptography,” he said in a statement.

TM also welcomed the continued expansion of the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiative, alongside efforts to improve connectivity in Orang Asli villages, higher learning institutions and the Federal Land Development Authority or Felda settlements.

The implementation of the SALAM submarine cable, which is intended to strengthen connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, would further support national digital infrastructure, Huzaimi said.

He also highlighted the importance of Kempen Internet Selamat in promoting safer online participation among Malaysians.

On small and medium enterprises, TM welcomed the Geran Sejahtera Madani initiative, which it said could accelerate the digital adoption and business growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“MSMEs are key drivers of the economy, and TM plays an active role in supporting their digital adoption,” he said, adding that the grant could help improve business growth and livelihoods.
