KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended the day marginally higher as investors remained on the sidelines amid the absence of market- moving factors.
At 5pm, the FBM KLCI closed up 0.88 of-a-point at 1,631.75 after moving between an intraday high of 1,640.46 and a low of 1,630.95.
There were 564 gainers, 598 losers and 524 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia. About 4.8 billion shares, valued at RM2.9bil, changed hands.
Dealers said trading remained cautious, with investors largely staying on the sidelines ahead of the tabling of Budget 2027 on Friday.
They said buying interest was selective, with technology and semiconductor-related counters attracting support amid gains in regional markets.
Investors are expected to remain cautious in the near term as they await fresh leads from Budget 2027, particularly measures that could provide catalysts for key sectors of the economy.
Technology and semiconductor-related counters were among the top gainers, led by Malaysian Pacific Industries
, which rose RM1 to RM43.40.
UMS Integration gained 37 sen to RM9.40, UWC added 31 sen to RM7.88, ViTrox advanced 30 sen to RM10.76 and Cnergenz jumped 29 sen, or 31.87%, to RM1.20.
Among the decliners, Batu Kawan fell RM1.48 to RM18.98, Allianz-PA lost 40 sen to RM22, UTD Plantations shed 32 sen to RM31.06 and Hengyuan declined 18 sen to RM3.46.
Meanwhile, Brent crude rose seven cents, or 0.07%, to US$102.32 a barrel, but U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude edged down 43 cents, or 0.47%, to US$90.68 per barrel.
Asian bourses closed higher today, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbing 2.4% to 69,946.86, while South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.46% to 7,003.74.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed up 0.28% to 24,040.34, Taiwan’s Taiex advanced 2.55% to 49,712.04, while Singapore’s Straits Times Index added 0.42% to 5,658.70.
China’s onshore financial markets remained closed for the National Day holidays and will resume trading on Oct 8.
