PETALING JAYA: For too long, global stock markets felt out of reach for everyday Malaysians. Webull Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Kenneth Chan wants to dismantle that barrier once and for all.
By embedding Webull directly inside TNG Digital’s GOfinance hub, 27 million ewallet users can now trade US, Hong Kong, and China A-share markets without downloading a new app.
This marked the collaboration between TNG Digital Sdn Bhd, the operator of digital financial services and lifestyle app, TNG ewallet, and Webull which announced a strategic partnership yesterday to introduce global share trading through GOfinance, TNG ewallet’s all-in-one financial hub.
Webull Securities is the Malaysian subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Webull Corp.
When pressed on how many of GOfinance’s 8.5 million financial services users Webull expects to convert into active global traders, Chan refused to play a guessing game.
“Out of the 8.5 million users that we have, many of them are actually from most of the users of our money market fund,” he said.
“So they have actually started their investment journey through the money market fund,” he told StarBiz.
TNG Digital chief financial services officer Desmond Teoh echoed the sentiment, targeting 10% to 20% adoption over the coming years, focusing heavily on user understanding over raw sign-up metrics.
For Webull, Chan said the structural advantage of this collaboration is undeniable.
While legacy players pour millions into roadside billboards hoping drivers might take notice, Webull instantly gains direct access to a captive audience.
“If you spend x million on a billboard, people drive across, they see, doesn’t mean they’ll buy,” Chan noted.
“Today with TNG, 27 million app users are in your hands. You see the Webull, they click.”
Yet, seamless access brings a duty of care.
When asked about safeguards against unsophisticated investors panic trading during market volatility, Chan stressed that software alone isn’t a silver bullet.
“Access is easy. But we cannot have a button to stop you from panicking in that way,” Chan explained.
“It goes back to education, that you need to actually know what you’re doing.
“That’s very key for any investment platform.”
To address this, Webull equips GOfinance users with a free built-in learning hub, advanced charting tools, and 24-hour weekday trading capabilities alongside 0% commissions and platform fees.
As for adding local equities or derivatives down the road? Chan remains focused on filling the current void: giving Malaysians seamless, zero-cost access to global wealth creation.
Teoh remembered buying his first US stock a decade ago; filling out paper forms, waiting on remisier phone calls, and nervously watching CNN’s ticker tape to see if his trade went through.
“Today, a Malaysian sitting on their couch can tap GOfinance, fund an account straight from their ewallet balance, and own a fraction of Apple stock before a Netflix intro finishes rolling,” Teoh added.
To kickstart the launch, eligible new users who deposit RM200 and maintain it for 30 days can claim RM30 worth of Apple fractional shares.
