KUALA LUMPUR: PETRONAS is taking measures to ensure continuity of gas supply to customers in Malaysia following the temporary shutdown of the Songkhla Export Pipeline.
The pipeline, operated by Trans Thai-Malaysia (Thailand) Ltd (TTM), a joint venture between PTT and PETRONAS, was shut down after an issue was identified during a routine inspection.
“PETRONAS recognises the impact this may have on the gas supply to customers in Malaysia and Thailand, and proactive measures are being taken to ensure continuity to customers in Malaysia.
“PETRONAS' integrated supply network provides the flexibility to sustain supply, and the company is working closely with its partners and customers to maintain system stability,” the national oil company said in a statement.
The shutdown is a precautionary measure to protect the integrity of the pipeline and ensure safe operations.
The pipeline will resume operations only after it has been confirmed safe to do so.
“PETRONAS remains focused on upholding the highest standard of safety and operational integrity, even as it ensures the reliability of supply to domestic customers in support of Malaysia's energy security,” it said.
