Hengyuan Refining appoints Erkki Ranta as CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd has appointed Erkki Tapio Ranta as chief executive officer (CEO), effective Oct 1, following the end of Luke Yin Lujiang's contract.

In separate filings with Bursa Malaysia, the company said Yin, 55, ceased all his duties and responsibilities with the company effective Oct 1.

Ranta, 62, previously served as Hengyuan Refining's CEO from March 2020 to July 2021.

The Finnish national has more than three decades of experience in the refining and oil industry.

Ranta began his career as a plant design engineer with Air-Ix Oy in Finland in 1990 before joining Neste Oil Oyj in 1991, where he held various positions over more than two decades.

His roles at Neste Oil included plant manager and production manager, as well as health, safety, environment and quality director overseeing refineries in Finland, Singapore and Rotterdam.

He subsequently served as refinery director at INA's Rijeka Refinery in Croatia from May 2015 to April 2019 before becoming INA's chief expert of refining and marketing.

Following his earlier stint at Hengyuan Refining, Ranta served as managing director of Bayernoil Raffineriegesellschaft mbH from August 2021 to November 2024.

He was an independent consultant based in Croatia from November 2024 to August 2026.

Ranta holds a bachelor's degree in process technology from the Tampere Institute of Technology.
