Shiang Lung looks to Gulf region for growth

PETALING JAYA: Sabah-based dried seafood wholesaler and distributor Shiang Lung Supply Sdn Bhd is betting on Muslim-majority markets, including the Gulf region, for its next phase of growth.

In a statement, the company said its bird’s nest products are halal-certified.

Managing director Kent Lim said the certification was part of the company’s efforts to reach new customer segments and support its long-term expansion.

“We recognised the potential of Muslim-majority markets and saw an opportunity to build on our existing business by reaching new customer segments, especially in the Gulf region,” he said.

“We see this as part of building a stronger foundation for Shiang Lung’s next phase of growth and for long-term expansion.”

Meanwhile, Sabah Development Bhd chairman Datuk Yusof Yacob said companies such as Shiang Lung could help create greater economic value from Sabah’s natural resources and promote local products overseas.

“When these products are marketed with the label ‘Product of Sabah’, they indirectly carry Sabah’s name overseas,” he said after visiting Shiang Lung’s bird’s nest processing facility, fish maw and sea cucumber operations and retail outlet.

Shiang Lung currently exports its bird’s nest products to Hong Kong, Singapore and other markets.
