LB Group expands Malaysia footprint with RM1bil facility in Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR: China-based titanium dioxide and inorganic chemical materials manufacturer, LB Group Co Ltd, has expanded its footprint in Malaysia with the launch of a new facility at the Gurun Heavy Industrial Park (GHIP) in Kedah, representing a total investment of RM1 billion.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) said the expansion, undertaken via the group's subsidiary, LB Advanced Material Asia Sdn Bhd, spans 24.32 hectares, with Phase 1 involving an investment of RM600 million.

"The facility will be developed in phases, with a planned annual production capacity of 300,000 tonnes upon completion, strengthening LB Group's manufacturing footprint and supply chain capabilities in Southeast Asia.

"The project is expected to create over 300 skilled employment opportunities for Malaysians while contributing to the development of Kedah's industrial and chemical manufacturing ecosystem," it said.

MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid said LB Group's decision to establish its manufacturing facility here reflects a strong vote of confidence in Malaysia's industrial ecosystem and its potential as a regional manufacturing hub.

"The group's investment in titanium dioxide and advanced inorganic chemical materials will strengthen our capabilities in high-value manufacturing and contribute to the development of a more complex and resilient chemical industry.

"It is also in line with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the Chemical Industry Roadmap 2030," he said.

Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim noted that MIDA, together with the Kedah state government, will continue to facilitate the project's implementation, strengthen linkages with local suppliers and maximise the wider economic opportunities arising from this investment.

Meanwhile, LB Advanced Materials Asia director Liang Sun said Malaysia offers exceptional strategic advantages with Gurun's direct access to major highways, rail networks and the Penang Port, ensuring optimal export efficiency.

"Establishing LB Advanced Materials Asia allows us to better serve our regional and global clients while navigating international trade dynamics with greater flexibility," he said.

LB Group operates an integrated value chain covering titanium minerals, titanium dioxide and titanium sponge, alongside businesses in zirconium products and new energy materials.

Its flagship BILLIONS brand serves more than 1,500 clients globally across a wide range of applications, including coatings, plastics, inks and paper. - Bernama
