KUALA LUMPUR: Bermaz Auto Bhd
secured a stronger bottomline in the first quarter of its financial year (1QFY27) ended July 31, 2026, on the back of higher sales from its Mazda domestic operations.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing, the auto distributor said its net profit in 1QFY27 leapt to RM40.51mil from RM8.28mil in the year-ago quarter as revenue rose to RM553.08mil from RM491.28mil previously.
Earnings per share rose to 3.57 sen from 0.71 sen in the previous comparative quarter.
The increase in group revenue was largely owing to the higher Mazda sales volume, especially for the Mazda 3, which continued to see strong consumer demand.
However, the group said the revenue increase was partially offset by lower sales volume from the Kia domestic operations following the cessation of the distributorship in November 2025.
Meanwhile, the group said its improved profitability was also owing to better financial performances from its associated companies, which recorded a share of net profit as compared to a share of losses in the year-ago quarter.
In its outlook for the year, the group said the continuous influx of Chinese-brand vehicles with their aggressive pricing has created an inventory overhang in the market.
"This has resulting in a disorderly pricing environment characterised by continuous discounting.
"Evolving government policies will impact the broader economy and the automotive landscape," it said.
While cautious of the changing environment, the board said it remains positive the group will be able to maintain its competitive position and profitability for the financial year ending April 30, 2027.
It declared a first interim dividend of two sen per share with entitlement date on Oct 20, 2026, and payable on Nov 4, 2026.
