KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has expanded its S70 range with two new variants, Lite and Prime, with estimated prices below RM60,000.
The national carmaker, in a statement, said both variants are powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Bookings for the new variants opened on Sept 7 at all authorised Proton dealers nationwide, while final prices will be announced at the official launch.
Proton said the new variants retain its ride and handling setup and come with three selectable drive modes.
Both variants are equipped with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an electric parking brake with auto brake hold, remote engine start, reverse camera and rear seat reminder.
Safety features include six airbags, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-side radar system comprising blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, door opening warning and rear collision warning. Equipment levels will vary between the Lite and Prime variants.
Proton deputy chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa said the additional variants would broaden the S70 range and give customers more choices at a lower price point.
“The introduction of the new variants expands that proposition to customers who are looking for an affordable yet well-equipped sedan that offers generous cabin space and a comfortable driving experience.
“At the same time, we have ensured that key features are available across the range, giving customers greater choice without compromising on what matters in everyday driving,” he added.
The company said the S70 has recorded average monthly sales of more than 2,500 units in 2026.
Customers who book and register the S70 Lite or Prime by Dec 31, 2026, will also be eligible for an early-bird reward, with details to be announced at the launch.
