KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Bhd
, one of the country's leading multinational corporates, continues to compete in some of the largest markets in the Asia Pacific, proving that Malaysian companies can operate successfully on the regional stage, said group CEO Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson.
Sime Darby has a workforce of about 29,000 employees across 18 countries and territories. It was Malaysia's largest listed company by revenue in 2025, having established itself as a leading regional player in the automotive and industrial sectors.
Regionally, the group is one of the world's largest Caterpillar and BMW dealers.
Through its motors division, the group operates more than 200 outlets across 10 Asia Pacific markets, covering vehicle assembly, distribution, retail, aftersales and rental.
Sime Motors and Sime UMW together give the group a presence across the full automotive spectrum, with Sime UMW further strengthening its leadership through Perodua and Toyota in Malaysia.
Some 64% of the group's revenue is generated outside Malaysia, reflecting the scale of its regional operations and international reach.
"Just as importantly, what we learn and build in these markets must also benefit Malaysia. We want to bring new knowledge and perspectives home, develop our local talent pool and create more opportunities for Malaysian businesses to grow with us.
"This is closely aligned with the national GEAR-uP agenda and its focus on building a more competitive and resilient Malaysian economy,” said Jeffri in a statement
Through Inokom in Kulim, Kedah, the group undertakes local assembly for global automotive brands, including BMW, MINI, Hyundai, Mazda, Porsche and Chery.
With its assembly capabilities supported by a 100% Malaysian workforce, Inokom equips Malaysian talent with specialised technical expertise while working to the exacting standards of global principals, reinforcing Malaysia’s capabilities as a regional automotive manufacturing hub.
Beyond this, Sime’s contribution extends across its network of Malaysian suppliers, vendors, dealers and service providers.
In 2025, Sime supported over 980 Bumiputera vendors and local businesses, with nearly RM2.5bil spent on procurement, further contributing to employment, capability development and economic activity across the value chain.
“As a homegrown Malaysian company, our growth across Asia Pacific is not just about expanding our business footprint. It is about bridging opportunities for Malaysia by connecting local talent, businesses and communities to wider regional and global markets.
"Through these connections, we create opportunities for Malaysians, strengthen local enterprises, and bring back valuable knowledge and capabilities that support the nation's continued development.
"We are proud to serve as a flagbearer for Malaysia and remain committed to building a competitive regional business that delivers sustainable value for both our stakeholders and Malaysia,” added Jeffri.
