KUALA LUMPUR: Tax management has become an integral part of corporate governance strategy as more companies place greater emphasis on tax compliance, risk management, and transparency in their business operations, the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (IRB) said today.

IRB said in a statement today that this development was clearly reflected in the strong response to the Transfer Pricing & Tax Corporate Governance Seminar 2026, which attracted more than 1,300 participants, representing a 24 per cent rise from 1,050 last year.

"The increase reflects the growing awareness among the business community and tax professionals that good tax governance is no longer just about meeting compliance requirements. It is also an important element in managing tax issues early," said IRB in a statement today.

The seminar forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen tax education and awareness in line with the HASiL Taxpayer Education Plan 2026-2030, which focuses on enhancing knowledge, awareness, and understanding to foster a culture of voluntary tax compliance.

IRB said it will continue to strengthen collaboration with the business community and tax professionals to ensure tax issues are better understood and managed through educational platforms and knowledge-sharing initiatives such as this seminar, while supporting the development of a business ecosystem that is more transparent, accountable, and competitive. - Bernama
