KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines has adopted the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Turbulence Aware programme to enhance flight safety through real-time turbulence intelligence.
In a statement, the carrier said the programme provides pilots with real-time turbulence data shared by participating airlines worldwide, enabling them to better anticipate clear air turbulence (CAT), make more informed operational decisions and improve passenger and crew comfort.
Malaysia Airlines chief operating officer Aida Salfaraz Ahmad Fadzil said the adoption reflects the airline's continued investment in technology and industry partnerships to strengthen operational capabilities.
"At Malaysia Airlines, safety underpins every decision we make. Our adoption of IATA's Turbulence Aware programme is another step in strengthening our operational capabilities, enhancing passenger comfort and ensuring every journey is delivered with the highest standards of safety and care," she said.
The airline said the initiative complements its recent recognition as a Seven Star PLUS safety-rated airline by AirlineRatings.com, which recognises carriers for high standards in cabin safety, operational discipline and safety culture.
Meanwhile, IATA senior vice-president for products and services Frederic Leger said Malaysia Airlines' participation would strengthen turbulence data coverage, particularly across Asia, benefiting airlines using the platform.
Malaysia Airlines said the programme supports better situational awareness for flight crews, helping improve safety, operational efficiency and passenger comfort across its network spanning Asia, Europe and Oceania.
