SUBANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd
(MAHB) and Mitsui Fudosan Group (Mitsui Fudosan) will undertake an RM80 million investment to develop a new air cargo logistics complex, with MAHB holding a 30 per cent stake and Mitsui Fudosan owning the remaining 70 per cent.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the partnership was part of MAHB’s strategy to leverage its airport land assets by combining them with the expertise of strategic partners in developing and operating logistics complexes.
"In this regard, I understand they (Mitsui Fudosan) have expertise in Japan. They have also built and operated logistics complexes at Haneda Airport. Therefore, this will greatly assist us in minimising the risks to Malaysia Airports,” he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony for the Subang maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) Logistics Complex Project here on Thursday.
The project, a new industrial development within Subang Aerotech Park, is being developed by MFMA Industrial Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Mitsui Fudosan (Asia) Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Airports (Subang) Sdn Bhd.
The facility is a strategic investment aimed at supporting the growth of aviation and aerospace-related businesses within the Subang Airport area.
Also present were Embassy of Japan in Malaysia Minister Daisuke Nihei, MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, and Mitsui Fudosan (Asia) Malaysia managing director Masayoshi Saito.
Loke said the government was intensifying efforts to strengthen the country's air cargo sector by expanding operational capacity at several key airports, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).
He said Penang currently accounts for about 75 per cent of Malaysia's total air cargo throughput, reflecting its position as the country's semiconductor manufacturing hub.
Loke said KLIA was being positioned as ASEAN's regional air cargo hub through collaboration with China.
He added that the ministry was also working with the Sabah state government to develop an air cargo hub at KKIA by repurposing Terminal 2.
Built on a 1.78-hectare site within Subang Aerotech Park, the new MAHB-Mitsui Fudosan facility will provide approximately 254,420 square feet of gross floor area and offer multiple tenancy options to cater to varying operational requirements.
Strategically located within the Subang Airport area, the development will provide convenient access to established aerospace, aviation and logistics operators across the Klang Valley.
The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027, with operations scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of the same year. - Bernama
