U Mobile’s DNB exit done

The migration has given the company greater flexibility to deliver “unparalleled customer experiences through continued innovation, differentiated products and services”, U Mobile said.

PETALING JAYA: U Mobile has completed the migration to its own nationwide ULTRA5G network within a year, following its exit from the wholesale access agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

The migration has given the company greater flexibility to deliver “unparalleled customer experiences through continued innovation, differentiated products and services”, U Mobile said in a statement.

The transition follows U Mobile’s exit from its wholesale access agreement with DNB, effective July 1, 2026.

The wholesale arrangement had been maintained as an interim measure to ensure continuity of 5G services. All customers have now been successfully transitioned to U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network.

U Mobile commenced its 5G rollout in July 2025. Since then, the telecommunications player has achieved more than 85% coverage of populated areas.

It has earned recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for the fastest 5G network rollout in the country.

“This achievement underscores the company’s ability to deliver a national 5G network well ahead of schedule with the latest technology and better customer experience validated by third parties such as Ookla and Opensignal.

“Complementing its extensive outdoor coverage, U Mobile has also made significant investments in in-building coverage (IBC), enabling a more seamless 5G experience in locations where connectivity matters most, including transport hubs, commercial buildings, retail destinations, healthcare facilities, hotels, offices, government facilities and enterprise environments nationwide.”

Currently, U Mobile has deployed more than 190 IBC sites nationwide and remains on track to expand this to over 600 sites.

Beyond network coverage, U Mobile said customers can also benefit from a growing portfolio of differentiated products and services that leverage the full capabilities of U Mobile’s next-generation network.

These include network prioritisation for eligible users during periods of congestion, reserved network capabilities that deliver enhanced performance, built-in security features and future innovations enabled by U Mobile’s 5G standalone architecture.

Separately, U Mobile has secured RM4.3bil in syndicated financing from a consortium of leading local and international financial institutions to support the continued expansion of its network.

U Mobile chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck said the completion of the migration gives the company full control over its network, allowing it to innovate faster, elevate customer experience and introduce more differentiated products and services.

“Over the past year, we have built one of the country’s widest and deepest 5G networks, complemented by a rapidly expanding in-building coverage footprint to deliver a more seamless indoor and outdoor experience.

“Together with our 5G standalone network, this puts us in a strong position to bring more industry-leading innovations to market while continuing to raise the bar for customer experience.”
