Sunway reassigns Abdul Wahid as co-chairman

PETALING JAYA: Sunway Bhd has announced the redesignation of Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar as its co-chairman with effect from July 1.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Sunway said Abdul Wahid, who is an independent non-executive director of the company, will succeed Datuk Seri Idris Jala, who is retiring.

“The board of Sunway thanks Idris for his invaluable contributions during his tenure as co-chairman of Sunway and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours,” said the company.

Abdul Wahid served as the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) from May 2008.

Before joining Maybank, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid was the group CEO of Telekom Malaysia Bhd from July 2004 until its demerger with Axiata Group Bhd in April 2008.
