PETALING JAYA: Power grid operator Tenaga Nasional Bhd
(TNB) is extending a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Kenyir Hydro Power Station (SJ Kenyir) for five years, effective Sept 14, 2025 to Aug 31, 2030, following approval from the Energy Commission.
The company said the PPA’s extension “is necessary to ensure continuous operation of SJ Kenyir prior to the implementation of the Hydro Life Extension Programme (HLEP)”.
SJ Kenyir operates four generating units with a total installed capacity of 400MW.
The extension will also support system reliability, particularly in the eastern region of Peninsular Malaysia, and enable critical repair and overhaul works, including major rehabilitation of generating units.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, it said that the PPA extension would ensure continuity of earnings contribution from SJ Kenyir during the interim period, support TNB’s generation portfolio stability and, facilitate the transition towards long-term operations under the HLEP initiative.
