TNB extends Kenyir Hydro Power Station PPA

PETALING JAYA: Tenaga Nasional Bhd is extending a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Kenyir Hydro Power Station (SJ Kenyir) for five years, effective Sept 14, 2025, to Aug 31, 2030, following approval from the Energy Commission for the extension.

The company said the PPA’s extension “is necessary to ensure continuous operation of SJ Kenyir prior to the implementation of the Hydro Life Extension Programme (HLEP)”. SJ Kenyir operates four generating units with a total installed capacity of 400MW.

The extension would also support system reliability, particularly in the eastern region of Peninsular Malaysia and enable critical repair and overhaul works, including major rehabilitation of generating units.

It said in a filing to the stock exchange that the PPA extension would ensure continuity of earnings contribution from SJ Kenyir during the interim period, support TNB’s generation portfolio stability and facilitate the transition towards long-term operations under the HELP.
