Malaysia Airlines unveils Mumbai Indians-themed aircraft livery

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines has unveiled a special aircraft livery with Mumbai Indians, blending the airline’s signature blue with the cricket team’s iconic blue and gold.

In a statement, the national carrier said the design, featured on a Malaysia Airlines A330-300, transforms the aircraft into a bold showcase of sport and culture, incorporating the Mumbai Indians emblem and Chakra motif to symbolise motion, momentum and the team’s growing global fanbase.

To mark the launch, Malaysia Airlines and Mumbai Indians have released a tribute digital film capturing the vibrant culture of Mumbai, the passion of its fans and the warmth of Malaysian Hospitality.

Malaysia Aviation Group airline business chief executive officer Bryan Foong said India remains a key growth market, with the collaboration reflecting the airline’s efforts to deepen engagement beyond traditional aviation partnerships.

“This collaboration with Mumbai Indians allows us to go beyond traditional aviation partnerships by integrating cultural relevance into our brand experience.

“It reflects our commitment to building meaningful, long-term connections with customers while reinforcing Malaysia Airlines as a carrier that connects people, places and passions across our global network,” he said.

A Mumbai Indians spokesperson said the initiative extends the team’s presence beyond the sport, connecting fans globally and bringing the spirit of Mumbai to a wider audience.

The aircraft is set to operate on key routes later this year, linking destinations across India, Asia and beyond, while offering fans an extended matchday experience in the skies.

The collaboration also supports Malaysia Airlines’ broader strategy to boost inbound travel and strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional hub, alongside initiatives such as its Bonus Side Trip programme and ongoing support for Visit Malaysia 2026.
